The 2019 Ford Edge Is an IIHS Top Safety Pick

Top Safety Pick | L&L Motors | Roosevelt, UT

The 2019 Ford Edge is a great vehicle for families, having a spacious interior and innovative technologies. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety also recently gave the SUV a 2019 Top Safety Pick award, so you can have peace of mind when driving your loved ones.

The Ford Edge had to perform well in different tests to earn the prestigious award. Accordingly, the SUV earned a “Superior” rating for collision prevention, as well as a “Good” rating for the passenger-side small overlap front test.

Ford Co-Pilot360™ technology helped the Edge earn these ratings. The Rear View Camera displays the area behind your vehicle while you reverse out of a parking spot. Traction control keeps you stable on different road conditions. Plus, BLIS® with Cross-Traffic Alert, the Lane-Keeping System and Hill Start Assist all come standard.

“We are really pleased the insurance industry places such a high degree of trust in our 2019 Ford Edge,” said Angela Cascaden, Ford Edge Marketing Manager. “It not only offers a number of innovative safety features for passengers, it backs that all up with a host of driver-assist technologies designed to help improve confidence behind the wheel.”

Discover for yourself how the 2019 Ford Edge can help keep your family safe on the road when you take a test drive at L&L Motor.

New Ford Ranger Off-Road Parts Are Coming

Ford Ranger off-road parts

Ford Performance and ARB 4×4 Accessories have teamed up to make Ford Ranger off-road parts. These new parts are great for drivers wanting to take the path less traveled.

The first part to come out of the collaboration is a winch-capable front bumper, which is designed specifically for the Ford Ranger. The bumper is made from welded sheet steel and attaches to the truck’s existing chassis mounting points. It is also finished in an Integrit® powder coat for extra style and durability.

Ford also ensured the new bumper would not compromise the functionality of the truck’s features, such as the available Adaptive Cruise Control with Forward Collision Warning and the Ford Co-Pilot 360™ driver-assist technologies. Compatible accessories for the new bumper include LED lightbars, jacking points for off-road jacks, and antenna and sand flag mounts

Ford and ARB will also make additional vehicle recovery parts and off-road accessories for other Ford trucks as well as SUVs. The upcoming components will help improve the off-road capabilities of Ford models, give more options for vehicle customization and increase your confidence while driving.

Fall Foliage Road Trips in Utah

fall foliage road trips in Utah

New England does not have the market cornered on pretty autumns. In fact, Utah might be the most beautiful place in the country come fall (and all seasons, let’s be honest). Looking for a place to see the leaves change? Check out one of these fall foliage road trips in Utah this year in your new Ford F-150:

Snowbasin Resort

Head to Ogden Valley for some breathtaking views of the changing trees. While out that way, stay a couple nights at Snowbasin Resort, where you can try some delicious beer and barbecue—and free jazz on Sundays.

Mount Nebo Loop

To see beautiful yellow and orange trees reflected in still water, try out this scenic drive.

Zion National Park

Forget Yellowstone. Zion National Park may be the country’s most amazing national park with beautiful views of red rocks and jagged cliffs. While the landscape is sparser in terms of trees, it still does play host to changing leaves — and the tourists have all left for the summer.

The Alpine Loop

This is by far Utah’s most famous fall foliage loop. Start at American Fork Canyon and head to Provo Canyon on this 20-mile loop.

Contact us here at L&L Motor to schedule your Ford’s seasonal service appointment before the holidays arrive.

See How Ford’s SHE-MOVES Mobility Program Is Making a Difference

SHE-MOVES

This year, Ford and the Ford Fund created a new mobility program called Strengthen Her: Mobilizing Ventures for Social Innovation, or SHE-MOVES. The SHE-MOVES mobility program was designed specifically to make a difference in the lives of women and children in South Africa and Nigeria. SHE-MOVES is built around the “Whole-Person Leadership” development, adhering to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, which include Quality Education, Affordable and Clean Energy, Clean Water and Sanitation, Gender Equality, and Good Health and Wellbeing.

Specifically, SHE-MOVES made a difference in Nigeria by awarding a grant to Shuttlers, a female-owned app-based service that helps more than 400 women move around in Lagos, which is seeing tremendous population growth.

In South Africa, SHE-MOVES partnered with the Uhambo Foundation of Cape Town to give children with special needs the mobility they require; the grant to the foundation also empowers caretakers of these children. In addition to the financial assistance, the SHE-MOVES mobility program donated a Ford Tourneo Custom to the organization.

“We are extremely grateful to receive the SHE-MOVES grant and the donation of the Ford Tourneo Custom, both of which will assist us immensely in reaching out to more members of the community and help improve the lives of children affected by disabilities, particularly in the impoverished rural areas,” remarked Uhambo Foundation General Manager Sarah Driver-Jowitt.

Ford Unveils Vehicle-to-Vehicle Communication Technology

Ford Connected Vehicle Platform

The Ford Motor Company has built its legacy upon innovation. That tradition shows no sign of stopping — at the Intelligent Transportation Society of America’s yearly conference in Washington, D.C., the automaker unveiled the Ford Connected Vehicle Platform.

Ford showed off two innovations aimed at making the road a safer place for drivers and pedestrians alike. These devices allow vehicles to communicate with other vehicles and mobile devices through Bluetooth®, blockchain encryption, and short-range communication technology.

The first demonstration showed a roadside unit that allows vehicles to wirelessly communicate with cyclists, pedestrians, and other road users. It allows pedestrians to be notified of oncoming vehicles they might not notice.

The second high-tech safety device aims to smooth out the issues inherent at four-way stops. It gives drivers an easier way to determine right-of-way, without the frustration of waving a hesitant driver on, while insisting, “Please, you go first.” Instead, the vehicles will have a conversation, ensuring smoother transitions and fewer miscommunications.

Ford Connected Vehicle Platform and Product Executive Director Don Butler is excited about the potential for these innovations. Aside from helping traffic run smoothly, Butler is excited to gather more data about traffic, construction, and emergency vehicles, so cities can strategically improve their infrastructure.

Key by Amazon Offered on Ford Vehicles

Key by Amazon

One of the newest innovations to come to the Ford lineup is Key by Amazon. This enables delivery people to deliver packages from Amazon inside of your car for safe keeping. Amazon’s goal for this service is to help prevent packages from being stolen from your front porch. This feature is available exclusively to Amazon Prime members.

The best part? You don’t have to go out and buy a new Ford to get this functionality. Instead, drivers of Fords from the 2017 model year and more recent years can add the functionality via FordPass Connect (assuming the Ford model has that feature enabled).

So how does it work? You will receive a notification when the delivery is about to occur and when it is complete. The delivery person will only have access to your vehicle during that delivery period and must verify that the vehicle has been locked after delivery. You also have the ability to reroute the delivery (like if you unexpectedly move your car) or reschedule (like if you will be driving your car all day).

Expect more innovations like this from Ford in the coming years. For example, Ford is already considering a similar perk: mobile car washes. This entails exactly what you’d imagine. While you sit in the office or just enjoy a day at home, car washers will come to your Ford and wash it for you.

Contact us at L&L Motor for more information on Key by Amazon, or to set up a test-drive of your favorite Ford model.

Tire Maintenance 101

Tire Maintenance

Well-maintained tires are an important part of safe driving. Here’s what you need to know about maintaining your vehicle’s tires.

Proper pressure

Properly inflated tires are critical to your vehicle’s ride, handling, and fuel economy. Check your tire pressure monthly, and before long road trips. Always check the tire pressure when the tires are cold — heated tires may show a falsely-elevated pressure reading.

Tread depth

Tire treads help your vehicle maintain traction, even in slippery conditions. Therefore, it’s important to monitor your vehicle’s tire tread depth.

To check the tread depth, flip over a penny and place it into several tread grooves.

If part of Lincoln’s head is always covered by the tread, the tires are still safe to drive on.

Regular rotation

To get the most out of your tires, have them rotated every 5,000-7,000 miles. This ensures a proper wearing pattern. Consult your vehicle owner’s manual for the correct rotational pattern, or bring it to our service department at L&L Motor.

Wheel alignment

A wheel alignment prevents excessive, uneven tire wear, improves your gas mileage, and gives you a smoother ride. If your vehicle pulls to one side, has a shaky steering wheel, or your vehicle has uneven tire wear, it’s time for a wheel alignment. Also, you should have this service performed whenever you purchase new tires or suspension parts. Otherwise, have your vehicle’s wheels aligned every 12-18 months.

If you have questions or need help maintaining your tires, bring your vehicle to our service department at L&L Motor.

2020 Ford Escape Is Best-Performing Version Ever

2020 Ford Escape

Last month, Ford announced that the new 2020 Ford Escape would be the best-performing Escape that the Blue Oval has ever produced.

For starters, the 1.5-liter EcoBoost, which will come standard on S, SE, and SEL models, will produce 180 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque and enable towing of up to 2,000 pounds. For the first time ever, this EcoBoost engine will feature cylinder deactivation for more efficient driving.

The other gas engine is the 2.0-liter EcoBoost, available on the Titanium, which will crank out 250 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque. This engine will also launch the EcoBoost from 0-60 mph in 10-percent less time than the outgoing 2.0-liter Escape engine and will enable towing up to 3,500 pounds.

The Escape became the world’s first hybrid SUV back in 2005. For 2020, Ford is offering two alternative-fuel powertrain options; the Ford Escape will be available as a hybrid or as a plug-in hybrid. No matter which powertrain the Escape is set up with, Ford estimates that the Escape will manage at least 400 miles between fill-ups. The standard 2020 Ford Escape hybrid with front-wheel drive should achieve a best-in-class EPA-estimated range — more than 550 miles on a single tank.

Download These 4 Apps for Safe Teen Driving

apps for safe teen driving

Are you worried about your new teen driver’s safety behind the wheel, especially when you’re not in the car to monitor? Then try out one of the four apps for safe teen driving, recommended by The News Wheel:

Focus by TeenDrive

To use this app, you will also need to purchase a beacon to install in your car and create an account online. When your teen’s phone is within 20 feet of this beacon, it will sync with it, meaning that when the car is in motion, all text and social media notifications will be blocked. Drivers can still utilize navigation and music apps.

MOTIVATE

While Focus requires that you purchase a beacon, MOTIVATE operates just with the app on the phone — and teens may be more eager to use this one. That’s because MOTIVATE is an incentive app that rewards teens for safe driving. MOTIVATE pauses app notifications when the teen is driving and awards them points for prizes for safe driving.

LifeSaver

When your teen’s vehicle is in motion, the phone automatically locks. And if they unlock it? You’ll get a notification so you can talk to your teen about safe driving.

Drivemode

Currently, Drivemode is available only for Android users. It uses voice command, reads texts aloud, supports Google Maps, and more. Most importantly? It turns off notifications.

If you and your teen are starting to shop for their first vehicle, stop by L&L Motor. We’ll help match you with the right Ford model to suit your budget and preferences.
