The Detroit Youth Choir recently gained popularity on the hit NBC show, “America’s Got Talent.” This talented group of young singers placed second on the reality competition, falling short of the $1 million grand prize. However, Ford wants to show support for the 52-member choir, which is why Ford Fund is giving scholarships to the members.
Each member of the choir is receiving a $1,000 scholarship from Ford Fund. That amount of money can help pay for textbooks or other necessary items for the choir members. Ford also gave the group a 15-passenger Transit van, which will make traveling to events easier.
“We share the pride and excitement of Detroiters everywhere in recognizing these remarkable and talented young people,” said Jim Vella, president, Ford Motor Company Fund. “We’re thrilled to be able to help them not only with their transportation challenges, but also the next chapter of their lives.”
The Detroit Youth Choir has been a part of the Detroit community since 1996. The choir teaches about music, theater arts, dance and even life skills. It also has an impressive 98 percent graduation rate. Ford has helped this choir as well as other members of Michigan communities with about $177 million given to important causes.
