Expect Innovation from Future Ford Cars

Ford is joining the ranks of other automakers and Silicon-Valley techies fighting for stakes in the future of automobiles. Jim Hackett—Ford’s new CEO—says he’s implementing changes to make Ford part of this future.

After spending three months on the job, Hackett specified what changes will be coming to Ford. Previously, Hackett led Ford’s autonomous car division before moving up to president and CEO of Ford Motor Company.

The changes affect both the production of Ford cars as well as the types of cars Ford will be focusing its energy on. Ford will further automate its manufacturing to slash costs, as well as invest particularly in SUVs and light trucks by taking away resources from traditional cars. Ford is boldly trying to anticipate what the future of automobiles will look like; investing in key electric power and smart technologies is part of its new venture.

Hackett wants Ford to expand its consumer markets and fight for a place in the future of autonomous cars, as these are looking more and more like the industry’s next step. A third area that Hackett would like to focus on is making Ford vehicles increasingly smart with tech features geared toward easy connectivity and entertainment.

Fords on the Big Screen: Jurassic Park, The Big Lebowski, & Gran Torino

Throughout the years, Hollywood has repeatedly turned to Ford vehicles to use on the big screen. Some of the most iconic scenes in movie history feature a Ford model, driven by famous actors in famous scenes. It happens more often than you would think, and we at L&L Motors want to share a few of our favorite Ford movie moments.

Jurassic Park

When thinking about Jurassic Park, the vehicles the characters drive to tour the park—and eventually use to barrel through the jungle terrain and escape from the dinosaurs—are instantly summoned to mind. These vehicles were first-generation Ford Explorers, decked out with a jungle paint job, off-road lights, and a tough front grille guard. All things considered, we think the Explorer put up a good fight against the T-Rex.

The Big Lebowski

Throughout The Big Lebowski, our favorite Dude and actor Jeff Bridges drives a 1973 Ford Gran Torino—that is, until it is stolen from him. In a hilarious unfolding of events, the Dude subsequently gets his car back, has it wrecked, and eventually sees it go up in flames. We’re proud that a Ford model is central to this cult favorite, although it takes quite a beating.

Gran Torino

In this film, Walt Kowalski—played by Clint Eastwood—prizes his 1972 Gran Torino Sport over all his other possessions. After returning from the Korean war, Kowalski worked at the Ford Motor Company in Detroit. Kowalski’s devotion to his car allows him to think about his past and informs the relationships that take shape within the film.
