Tire Maintenance 101

Tire Maintenance

Well-maintained tires are an important part of safe driving. Here’s what you need to know about maintaining your vehicle’s tires.

Proper pressure

Properly inflated tires are critical to your vehicle’s ride, handling, and fuel economy. Check your tire pressure monthly, and before long road trips. Always check the tire pressure when the tires are cold — heated tires may show a falsely-elevated pressure reading.

Tread depth

Tire treads help your vehicle maintain traction, even in slippery conditions. Therefore, it’s important to monitor your vehicle’s tire tread depth.

To check the tread depth, flip over a penny and place it into several tread grooves.

If part of Lincoln’s head is always covered by the tread, the tires are still safe to drive on.

Regular rotation

To get the most out of your tires, have them rotated every 5,000-7,000 miles. This ensures a proper wearing pattern. Consult your vehicle owner’s manual for the correct rotational pattern, or bring it to our service department at L&L Motor.

Wheel alignment

A wheel alignment prevents excessive, uneven tire wear, improves your gas mileage, and gives you a smoother ride. If your vehicle pulls to one side, has a shaky steering wheel, or your vehicle has uneven tire wear, it’s time for a wheel alignment. Also, you should have this service performed whenever you purchase new tires or suspension parts. Otherwise, have your vehicle’s wheels aligned every 12-18 months.

If you have questions or need help maintaining your tires, bring your vehicle to our service department at L&L Motor.

Download These 4 Apps for Safe Teen Driving

apps for safe teen driving

Are you worried about your new teen driver’s safety behind the wheel, especially when you’re not in the car to monitor? Then try out one of the four apps for safe teen driving, recommended by The News Wheel:

Focus by TeenDrive

To use this app, you will also need to purchase a beacon to install in your car and create an account online. When your teen’s phone is within 20 feet of this beacon, it will sync with it, meaning that when the car is in motion, all text and social media notifications will be blocked. Drivers can still utilize navigation and music apps.

MOTIVATE

While Focus requires that you purchase a beacon, MOTIVATE operates just with the app on the phone — and teens may be more eager to use this one. That’s because MOTIVATE is an incentive app that rewards teens for safe driving. MOTIVATE pauses app notifications when the teen is driving and awards them points for prizes for safe driving.

LifeSaver

When your teen’s vehicle is in motion, the phone automatically locks. And if they unlock it? You’ll get a notification so you can talk to your teen about safe driving.

Drivemode

Currently, Drivemode is available only for Android users. It uses voice command, reads texts aloud, supports Google Maps, and more. Most importantly? It turns off notifications.

If you and your teen are starting to shop for their first vehicle, stop by L&L Motor. We’ll help match you with the right Ford model to suit your budget and preferences.
